MemoThings

Best Anki Alternative

FSRS algorithm. AI card generation. Community decks. Modern mobile app. Free to start.

Why Learners Switch from Anki to MemoThings

Anki is powerful but has a steep learning curve, an outdated interface, and requires plugins for features that MemoThings includes by default. MemoThings uses the same FSRS algorithm available in Anki 23.10+ — but with a polished mobile interface, built-in AI generation, and a community deck library accessible from day one.

What MemoThings Keeps from Anki

  • FSRS algorithm — the same open-source algorithm in Anki 23.10+ schedules your reviews
  • Again / Hard / Good / Easy rating system — familiar 4-button review interface
  • Configurable retention target — set your desired retention rate (default: 90%)
  • Deck and card hierarchy — courses contain decks; decks contain cards
  • Free core features — basic FSRS review is free forever

What MemoThings Improves

Mobile-first design

Built for phones from the ground up — not a desktop app ported to mobile. Swipe gestures, haptic feedback, and touch-optimised layouts throughout.

AI card generation

Describe a topic and AI creates a complete structured course in seconds. No manual card creation needed unless you want it.

8 study modes

Beyond classic flashcard review — Quiz, Typing, Matching, Speed Round, Listening, True/False, and Fill in Blank come built-in, no plugins.

Community library in-app

Browse and import hundreds of community decks without leaving the app. No separate website, no file downloads, no manual import steps.

Session analytics

After every study session, see your retention score, cards reviewed, and a personal streak. Built-in — no add-ons required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import my Anki decks into MemoThings?
Direct .apkg import isn't currently supported. However, MemoThings has community decks covering the most popular Anki shared deck topics — JLPT, IELTS, medical, coding — available to import with one tap.
Does MemoThings use the same FSRS version as Anki?
MemoThings implements FSRS-5, the latest version of the algorithm, which is also available in Anki 23.10+. The scheduling logic and parameters are compatible.
Is MemoThings free like Anki desktop?
MemoThings has a free tier with core FSRS scheduling and community deck access — permanently free. AI generation and advanced analytics are Premium features.
Will my review history transfer if I switch?
Review history from Anki doesn't transfer. MemoThings starts building your memory model from scratch, but FSRS adapts quickly — most learners reach a well-calibrated schedule within 1–2 weeks of regular use.
